Biography

Dr. Joe Yackley is a Foreign Service Officer with the US Department of State, currently serving in Ankara, Turkey.

Joe received his PhD from NELC in 2013. Between 2002 and 2012, he was a Senior Editor with the Oxford Business Group, based in Berlin, Bucharest, Istanbul, Beirut, and Damascus.

Joe spent 2010 in Cairo and Istanbul on a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship, researching his dissertation, a comparative political economy of the Ottoman and Egyptian bankruptcies of the 1870s.

He is a co-author of the 2011 book, Risk Rules: How Local Politics Threaten the Global Economy.
