Alev Scott was born in the UK to a Cypriot Turkish mother and a British father.
After university she worked in London as an assistant director in theatre and opera before moving to Istanbul in January 2011, where she taught Latin at the Bosphorus University.
She works as a freelance journalist and is the author of Turkish Awakening, published by Faber. In 2019 she co-authored "Power & the People: Five Lessons from the Birthplace of Democracy".
In 2020 she co-authored "Power and the People: The Enduring Legacy of Athenian Democracy", a timely political history on the golden age and chaotic downfall of Athenian democracy, rich with lessons for contemporary America.
